Zombies!

Here are some more zombie heads, they are a lot of fun to draw. There is something about trying to capture the wrinkled, teared, and stretched skin of a zombie mug shot that is realy quite interesting.

Both of these are just pencil sketches that I have tried to tart up a bit in photoshop. I think the top one may have caught a glancing blow from a chainsaw. I dont know what is going on with the lower one but he looks as though he is quite enjoying zombie life.

Here we have the first section of the video that is near completion, set to the music, roughly as it will apear in the final video. there are some closeup shots to be cut in and the colours may need more tweaking. Be assured it looks far more impressive in all its crisp uncompressed glory!

New Shop, New Pens!

I have recently been making brass dip pens. Individualy turned by hand on my little old lathe, filed, polished and finished with precious stones. Each pen is a one of a kind precision drawing instrument. And now they are for sale on my new Etsy shop. Each pen is stamped with a unique number depending on how recently it was made, I am up to number 12 so far.

OK so heres the deal. for those of you not already aware noise is an online artists gallery/resorce/news/forum/amazing thing each year they ask for submissions from new and upcoming artists to take part in the festival and be judged by industry professionals. It is a real opportunity to get your work out there and they are genuinely fantastic people! anyway, enough praise. As part of this online festival they have opened up their own shop in Manchester called NOISELAB. this shop contains artwork, tshirts and all manner of other wonderful things created and contributed by artists. the shop however is beginning to look as though it may be shut down prematurely! so in order to stop this from happening I urge you to sign the PETITION or better yet head down to the shop and show your support. It is a fantastic showcase for young artists in and around manchester and needs your help!

I heart lathes

i recently became the proud owner of a pre war Super Adept lathe, and as such have been busy lathing away. Here is one of the results

this is a brass fully poseable armature. It stands around 8cm tall and comprises mostly of ball joints machined on the aforementioned lathe. Here also is the plans for the armature which i managed to stick to fairly accurately!
this was only a prototype version, I will be ironing out the design flaws and making more on a slightly larger scale more appropriate to stop motion work.

An amazing place with amazing people.
which made the 30 hour plane ride back here seem so much less worthwhile!
and yet I am back.

so here is my latest creation, it is a cut away diagram of the spaceshuttle from punks in space created using dreamweaver, it is a bit glitchy and slow to load but im pretty chuffed with it!

right mateys, whats going on? well for a start i have finished the piece for the forbidden arts exhibition mentioned last time. I dont think I made it quite clear what the exhibit was to be in the last post though, this is because I didnt know then. So, let me tell you now. It is a colaborative project involving telly-visions, a project spearheaded by Nancy, the owner of many empty tellys. everyone was given one of the aforementioned TVs, which are without their internal workings, as a sort of miniature exhibition space. here is my offering
looking forward to seeing what everyone else has done!
oh, also i have been directed to another blog that mentions my comic, Hurray!

and before i forget , those t-shirts should be ready soon too!

every couple of months, I am almost ashamed to admit, i go through the ritual of searching for myself on the internet. It may seem like a gratuitous ego tripping vanity party for my big fat head, but it is more a chance to find out things about myself that i didnt know, research. Research into a subject i should be an expert on. Every so often i find something completely new, sometimes i find people have written bad things about me, and sometimes good. And sometimes i find things that cheer me right up on a cold autumn morning, that make me feel like i am not completely wasting my time sitting every day drawing little comics, like this i stumbled across on comicimpact.com which is a great website devoted to all things comic! so thank you Rob Andrews for your encoraging words, if i wore a hat, today i would be wearing it on an angle and whistling a jaunty little tune. I think maybe its time to begin the next series of Punks in Space and its going to be bigger and better than ever.

flies you look cool but are horrible and a nuisance

Another possible tshirt design? or maybe a sticker, im not sure. Flys are quite horrible, they start off as eggs, become maggots, then Pupa, before becoming actual flies. Like horrible buttterflies realy, i suppose they are related, i dont think butterflies vomit on their food though. fascinating creatures. fascinating but horrible.

ok, as is always the way, i found this while busy and got completely sidetracked, ive spent the last half hour entranced by these machines. They are made by a man named Arthur Ganson and are incredible! so if you have a couple of hours free i would reccomend you check them out. I am fascinated by clockwork and gears and it is always a delight to see someone using gearing systems, some simple and others painfuly complex, to create such beutiful, almost organic, movement.

So what do we look forward to next?

the next project i am undertaking is for the TAA Forbidden arts Exhibition. i am joining forces with some other artists for this one to produce a number of pieces. i am thinking sculpture, it has been far too long and i need to flex my creature building muscles! more info on that project as it progresses! The exhibition its self should be rather exciting. I have been very pleasently surprised in previous years with the show, the sheer amount of work people put into it and the friendly atmosphere! so, well worth a visit. If you were too lazy to check the link it is running from the 4th to the 7th of november . . . location still to be disclosed!

other things. . . . lets see, im designing a t-shirt for selling on my website
the first of many. oh, and on the same note i have now got the shop up and running on the site, where you can buy the full series of Punks in Space, at a reduced price, and also the new comic Zombie Moor. Soon to arrive in the shop aswell, a lazer cut full size replica raygun. everyone likes rayguns. it is still in the prototype stages at the moment
but will soon be ready! A fine piece for the discerning collector, i hope you agree, and also the first sculpture i have been able to reproduce more than once without having to faff around with moulds and casting! more info to come on price and stuff when i get chance!
